The Day We Held Lee MacDougall Captive

So, before you go telling me that kidnapping people and holding them hostage is frowned upon or whatever… I would like to say in our defense that Lee MacDougall willingly got into a car with and accepted candy from strangers, so we should not be held 100% responsible for our actions.

And I suppose I should further set the record straight by telling you that my friends and I were picking him up to sing at a private party that we were hosting and, therefore, it was not a true hostage situation. After all, I wouldn’t want you to get the mistaken impression that I routinely troll airports in search of handsome, guitar-carrying guys with British accents to abduct (an intriguing idea, nonetheless). Coincidentally, though, I did once find Donny Osmond in an airport and then spent the afternoon riding around with him in his car, so maybe this airport idea does have some merit. But I digress…

I’ll admit, the seven of us were quite the odd welcoming committee, but Lee proved to be extremely adaptable and took it all in stride. His quick, dry sense of humor fit right in with the gang and we had a very fun couple of days being his SoCal hosts. Looking back, I still can’t believe how much we laughed with (and at) him, but he handled it all so well that I have no doubt he could easily beat all of us in a battle of wits with one wit tied behind his back.

I think this picture of Lee with his Ralphs card is so funny and endearing because he brought it all the way back from England to save 20 cents on a cup of hot tea at a US grocery store. And, by the way, even though he thinks that the word “hot” should be implied when you’re ordering tea, everyone else knows it is not.

Because my house is a small, cluttery mess, we held the party at my neighborhood association clubhouse. Lee did actually go into my small, cluttery, messy house, so I will, of course, soon be installing a plaque above the front door to boast about that fact.

We had a group of 20-ish people there for the party, and, believe me, everyone was impressed by Lee’s beautiful sound and charming personality. He sang a wonderful acoustic set of original songs from his two CDs, a few great covers, and even took requests from the audience. It was also so sweet of him to open with one of my favorite songs, “Ships,” and dedicate it to me.

Many of my friends were hearing him sing for the first time and I know he won them over as fans that night. The room ended up being a perfect place for him to perform because it was an intimate setting, but not too small to be overwhelmed by his powerful voice. We also had plenty of food and drinks. The rum was especially popular.

Afterwards, party guests posed for pictures with Lee in just about every
conceivable combination. He really humored us on this and was so patient.

I did record his performance, and at some point will share some of the songs here and on youtube. I have to tell you, though, that I’ve had my video camera a few years now and still don’t know how to transfer footage, so poor Lee may be trapped in there for a long, long time. I also interviewed him for the blog and promise to post a transcript sometime in the next decade.

The girls picked up a Vons card to add to his grocery store club card collection

I’ll bet you’re wondering who won this arm wrestling match

Lee’s visit to San Diego was also memorable because I feel like we got to know him as a person. When Twi-daughter Nicole and I go on long drives, we like to pass the time by asking each other random, odd questions, so naturally we subjected Lee to the random, odd question game for many an hour in the car (in other words, we interrogated him like a suspect).

I hope it doesn’t lessen your good impression of him when I tell you that he doesn’t like cheese, is a muggle, and doesn't watch Doctor Who. I think at this point I now know enough interesting stories and strange facts about Lee to write a book, but I’ll probably just hang onto those gems for future blackmailing purposes ;)

I’m happy to tell you that we’ll be hosting Lee for another private show when he returns to the US in April (seriously, I always want to snicker inappropriately when I say “private show”, but that’s what he calls them). His last visit was one of the highlights of my year because any day that I get to laugh with my best friends and be serenaded by one of my favorite singers is an epic win in my book. And since he’s returning after all the abuse we gave him last time, maybe that means he had a little fun too.

Awww......

Breaking Dawn 2 Premiere: More Pictures From My Little Corner of the Black Carpet

When I found out that black carpet and bleacher positions for the Breaking Dawn 2 premiere were going to be assigned via lottery and not the same method as at prior premieres (you know, loiter around the Nokia Center for hours upon hours while pretending like you're not really loitering and then run like crazy at 2am to wait in an unofficial line and freeze to death all night without any sleep), frankly, I was a little worried.

Although we didn't end up with a spot right along the barricade this time, our little front corner actually ended up being quite wonderful. We were right there in the heat of the action, with a pretty good view of actors as they arrived and a prime spot for watching them do the Yahoo Live Stream interviews.

Honestly, my heart just melts when Peter Facinelli smiles. And I still think the Twilight hair and make up people who styled Carlisle should be flogged.

Any picture of Peter that has him looking at me (or even appears to have him looking at me) is always a win

I do believe he was mesmerized when he spotted me in the crowd, don't you think?

Elizabeth Reaser looked absolutely beautiful. By the way, if you're not following her on twitter, you're missing out because she is hilarious!

Billy Burke one of my favorite members of the Twilight cast and a total stud. That is all.

Mackenzie Foy reminded me of a beautiful porcelain doll. I still marvel at how well she handles herself around all the media and fan frenzy.

Stephenie Meyer is always so wonderful, taking more time to talk to fans and sign autographs at events than anyone else. You'd think she would get tired of hearing basically the same gushy story over and over, but she graciously makes each fan feel special.

Jackson Rathbone was too difficult to corner at the premiere for a good photo, but I'm giving you the ones that I have since I adore him so much. Yes, that's Justin Chon next to him.

I know I sound like a broken record telling you repeatedly how incredible each actor looks in person and how wonderful and appreciative they are to the fans, but believe me that it's especially true of Ashley Greene. Plus, she always does it in killer shoes. Wish I had a picture of them for you!

This is my third post of photos from the Breaking Dawn 2 premiere, so just scroll on down if you missed any of them. You won't want to miss the Rob pictures ;)

Breaking Dawn 2 Premiere: Kellan, Taylor and Kristen

One of the best things about attending the Breaking Dawn 2 premiere was that everywhere I looked, people seemed so incredibly happy just to be there - from the fans to the actors to everyone else involved. And even though not all of our favorite Twilight actors were in the final movie, most of them still came to the premiere to celebrate the grand culmination of a truly amazing movie series. And, I have to say, they looked marvelous!

Kellan Lutz was devastatingly handsome with those striking blue eyes
and that perfect suit. He seems like one of the genuinely nicest
guys ever and it's easy to tell that he appreciates his fans so much. He's also
one of the best huggers EVER!

I know this is blurry, but my imagination can still appreciate
how awesome this picture would have been!

The more I see Taylor Lautner, the more I like him. I wasn't feeling the Team Jacob
love early in the series (especially during New Moon), but both the
character and the wonderful actor who portrays him have really grown on me.

 He really is adorable

Kristen Stewart was so glamorous and poised during her Yahoo interview and walking the black carpet. I have no idea how she could calmly stand there smiling and posing with all the media people yelling her name trying to get her to look at their cameras along with the sheer volume of all the fans screaming.

I will admit to being startled when I
first saw her dress because she really did look kinda nekkid.

Another blurry picture that I wish came out better. I thought it was sweet
to see her wave to fans during her interview.

Breaking Dawn 2 Premiere: Let's Start With the Rob Pictures!

It's difficult to describe the excitement  and sheer insanity of attending the Breaking Dawn 2 movie premiere. As one of the hard-core-somewhat-weepy-sleep-deprived-after-five-days-of-camping fans, I was utterly thrilled to be there to pay tribute to my favorite books, movies, and actors. The experience was even more meaningful because I got to share it with so many good friends that truly "get" me, who I met along my four year Twilight journey.

Through a nerve-wracking lottery process, we (ZAnyMouse, Twifixx, Twi-Daughters Nicole and Megan, and me) were lucky to get pretty good black carpet spots right in the front corner where celebrities entered the carpet area. We were in the 3rd/4th row back, not close enough for photos with the actors, but had a great view for seeing cast arrivals and watching interviews on the Yahoo stage right next to us.

And who was my favorite person to watch be interviewed...? I'll let you guess.

Huge thank you to Twifixx for taking most of the pictures of Rob being interviewed. I had such a great view until Rude Yahoo Sound Lady stood directly in front of me and almost completely blocked Rob. Twifixx saved the day by taking my camera and getting some awesome shots.

Whoa... and then suddenly he was right in front of me!

I'll bet this would have been a really good picture... And I can only
imagine how many media shots I'm in from that bank of cameras across the way.

I think he was about to hug me in this picture, but was thwarted by Dean
(my pictures, my fantasy)

Twi-Daughter Nicole was able to get Rob's autograph
on both of our posters while I snapped pictures (and drooled)

I love this shot cause it gives you an idea of the sheer
madness that surrounds Rob. Personal space... what's that?

And then he was gone, until next time. And there will be a next time!
