Comic-Con 2012: Stephenie Meyer and the Parade of Vampires

I’ll bet you never realized that my erratic posting schedule and haphazard chronological style is all part of a master plan to keep things at TwiBite unpredictably fresh and… oh who am I kidding? I am a procrastinator of the worst sort and incapable of posting my musings in order, but thank you so much for still sticking around!

No surprise, but Breaking Dawn Part 2 has been on my mind quite a lot lately. Not only am I obsessing about Tent City camping next month, but I’ve also realized that time is running out to re-read the 2nd half of the book before the movie opens. And is it just me or are there an awful lot of new vampires?!

My severe lack of Breaking Dawn knowledge became especially apparent at Comic-Con a few months ago when Stephenie Meyer and 28 mostly new cast members visited us in line and I couldn’t identify most of the actors or the characters they portrayed. So, as a sort of public service, here are some pictures from a very awesome night in line at Comic-con with the actor & character names included to help you study. And don’t even think about asking me what coven they’re in.

I apologize ahead of time that nearly every photo includes Twi-daughter Nicole or me. My apologies also to ZAnyMouse and 17ForeverLisa because they were right next to us during the entire frenzy and I have not a single picture of them to share with you. Everything happened so quickly it was just so exciting to be surrounded by so much Twilightiness. There are a few actors that missed our section of the line, but I think we saw just about everyone.

Stephenie Meyer - It was so exciting to see her again! She's had such a major impact on my life.

Joe Anderson (Alistair) - I think Nicole was most thrilled to meet him out of everyone there because she's a huge fan of his work.

Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) - This is my favorite picture of the night and it was so wonderful to see Peter with a smile on his face again.

Kellan Lutz (Emmett) - One of the best huggers ever
(LOL, ZAnyMouse photo bomb alert!)

Angela Sarafyan (Tia)

Bill Tangradi (Randall)

Rami Malek (Benjamin)

Guri Weinberg (Stefan)

Mia Maestro (Carmen)

Maggie Grace (Irina)

Lisa Howard (Siobhan)

Judith Shekoni (Zafrina)

Tracey Heggins (Sienna) - I have to say, Judith and Tracey are VERY tall!

Ashley Greene (Alice)

Mackenzie Foy (Renesmee)

Elizabeth Reaser (Esme)

Nikki Reed (Rosalie)

Jackson Rathbone (Jasper) - We had such a great conversation about his upcoming musical plans and his new baby. He's a very proud new Dad. Gah, I just love that guy and miss 100 Monkeys!

Valorie Curry (Charlotte)

JD Pardo (Nahuel)

Amadou Ly (Henri)

Janelle Froehlich (Yvette)

Marisa Quinn (Huilen)

How awesome is this poster? There are about 25 autographs and I can’t identify most of them.

And here’s a little something to send you on your way with a smile on your face.

Comic-Con 2012: My Fairy Godmother Gave Me Exactly What I Wanted... Robert Pattinson!

In case you're one of the few people left on this planet who I haven’t forced to hear my story yet, last year at Comic-Con, a woman I didn’t know (aka My Fairy Godmother) gifted me with a wristband to a limited meet & greet with Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Bill Condon. It was awesome - I had a giddy conversation with Rob, he gave me a smoldering look, I made him laugh, and tricked him into looking at my chest (you can read about the whole thing HERE). Honestly, one of the best days ever!

Anyway… this year at Comic-Con, Summit once again raffled off chances to fans in line to win one of 50 wristbands to meet Rob, Kristen, Taylor and Mackenzie Foy (the most adorable kid ever) and… I won!! I know, I probably should have graciously given the wristband to someone else since I’ve already met Rob a few times now, but come on…. ROBERT PATTINSON!!!!!

Resistance is futile

Once the initial feelings of shock and elation passed, I started panicking about what I should say to him. I wanted to think of something interesting and unique that would make him affectionately remember me always as the most delightful fan ever (or at least not completely embarrass myself). So, I turned to my Twilight mentors for guidance… the girls at Twitarded: Jenny Jerkface, Snarkier Than You, and Latchkey Wife.

Odds were I probably wouldn’t have the guts to ask whatever they suggested (plus I have the memory of a goldfish), but it was still great fun to get their advice. My favorite question for Rob was from Latchkey Wife, “What's the dirtiest thing a fan has ever said to you?” Oh. My. God. In case anyone has any doubt, let me say that LKW is a genius. I’ve never heard anyone ask him that before, plus can you imagine having him look right into your eyes and give you the answer?? Sorry to disappoint, but I chickened out. I truly didn’t want to become an infamous cougar story for him to tell on the talk show circuit.

Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take pictures during the meet & greet (in fact, they said that if they even saw a glimpse of a camera or phone that they would take away our Comic-Con badges and send us home), but luckily there were some members of the press there to capture the memory (photo sources are unknown).

We were taken into the room in groups of eight and given a poster to have autographed. Rob and Kristen sat at the first table and Taylor and Mackenzie shared the second table. I was able to stand and watch (ie: stare and drool at Rob) while they talked to the first four people.

When it was my turn, Rob looked over to me, smiled, and said hi while I walked over. Let me just say, he looked absolutely incredible and I swear I would run away and follow him around forever if he only gave me the slightest bit of encouragement.

Me: (world's biggest smile) Hi! I'm Sue and.... (BLANK!!)

Rob: Hello! (and just kept smiling and staring straight into my eyes)

Me: (embarrassed laughing) Sorry, I… um… blanked there for a second... it's just so cool to talk to you and I'm so sleep deprived from camping outside the convention center the past few days.

Then he laughed and asked me about camping out and I can't remember what I said, but apparently it made sense. He took the poster from me to sign and even personalized it!!

Let’s just pretend that he’s looking at me in this picture

Me: (trying to think of something… anything… interesting to say) I've enjoyed all of your movies and just want to wish you all the best as you go through the next phase of your career. I read Cosmopolis and I know you are going to be so incredible in that role.

Rob: Thank you! You read Cosmopolis?! What did you think?

Me: It was.... interesting.

Rob: (laughs) That's certainly true.

(I now must confess to you, my understanding friends, that I looked Robert Pattinson straight in the eye and flat out lied. I never read Cosmopolis. I tried. Really, I tried, but I just couldn’t get past the first chapter… I promise to make this up to him by watching the movie 17,000 times)

Me: And my daughter made me promise to ask if you like Dr. Who because she thinks all British people are required to watch it.

Rob: (looked at my Dr. Who shirt and smiled) I grew up watching Dr. Who and I love it! Everybody loves it.

Then Kristen was finished with the person in front of her and joined in the conversation.

Kristen: (in a British accent) I watched Dr. Who when I was in London. Great show!

The three of us talked about something else that I can't remember. I thanked Rob for doing the autograph signing and told him to take care and that I would see him later (whatever that means. I guess that's like the standard stalker warning) and then he smiled again and said bye.

Kristen signed my poster, also personalizing it. I was still in sort of a daze, so I vaguely remember telling her how much I enjoyed watching the Breaking Dawn 2 clips that they showed during the panel. I think I said something like I could tell she’s going to be a really “kick-ass Bella” and couldn’t wait to see the rest of the movie. She was very nice and gracious, and thanked me for my lame comments.

Then I heard Taylor call out “Sue!! How’re you doing?!” Let me just say, if I were a young teenaged girl, I would totally be Team Jacob. He just so likeable and handsome.

Let’s pretend this is Taylor looking at me

Me: (dope that I am) Hi! How do you know my name?! Never mind… duh. (looking down at my name on the poster).

Taylor: It’s because we’re old friends and we just have this connection, ya know? (motioning back and forth several times between us and smiling).

We chatted a bit about Comic-Con in general and I asked him if he’s ever been able to go around on the convention floor to look around through all the madness. He said no, but that he really wanted to, so I told him about how we always hear afterwards about which celebrities wore costumes and walked the floor completely incognito. He thought it was pretty funny that Johnny Depp was a giant squirrel one year and Justin Timberlake was Ernie from Sesame Street. He laughed and told me, “Next year…”

Mackenzie Foy was insanely cute and I didn’t want to distract her while she painstakingly signed my poster. I think I just said hi and that I was looking forward to seeing her in the movie. She’s so young, but handles herself with such grace while still being refreshingly kidlike.

Then I took one last fleeting and wistful glance at Rob (while security glared a warning at me) and left the room.

And here they are saying goodbye to me (yes, I live in my own fantasy world)

Is this fabulous or what?!

And I have one more bit of super exciting news: Lee MacDougall is going to sing at a small party I'm hosting this fall! (He keeps referring to it as a "private event", which makes me want to snicker inappropriately). He also agreed to do a TwiBite interview (so we'll have to come up with some interesting questions!) and I'll be sure to record some video to post for you. If you don't know who Lee MacDougall is, please refer back to my post "I Just Can't Resist a Cute, Witty Brit with a Fabulous Voice and Killer Smirk" or check him out on youtube. I promise, he's awesome.

Comic-Con 2012: Let the Madness Begin!

Yep, it's true. I'm living the hobo lifestyle once again, camping out in the line for Comic-con. It's been great fun so far (other than the freight trains that barrel through all night, every hour on the hour) and hopefully I'll have lots of great pictures and stories for you soon!

Random Comic-con Chat

Comic-con week began with a bang when 17foreverLisa flew halfway across the United States to brave a whole week with my family and attend the festival of nerds known as Comic-con. Nearly a year had gone by since the one time we'd ever met in person, but when we saw each other again it was as if no time had passed (I’m feeling so poetic right now).

TwiredJen, 17foreverLisa, and TwiloveSue (aka Jen, Lisa and Sue) at the San Diego airport. You know, I can't help but notice that we fail at having super secret online identities since all three of us include our real first names as part of our screen names.

Jen and I surprised Lisa at the airport with an embarrassing Rob sign, balloons, and a box of her favorite beverage (wine) decorated with Rob, Kristen and Jackson pictures. We had a great lunch at Seaport Village next to the bay (yes, Lisa overcame her fear of being eaten by killer whales!) and had a fun afternoon on the Old Time Trolley Tour through San Diego. I'll save the story of our BookClub fieldtrip to Hollywood (and all the embarrassing pictures) for my next post.

Because we take our Twilight extremely seriously and lost all sense of logic years ago when Edward first walked into the cafeteria, we then spent the next three days waiting in line for the Breaking Dawn panel. It was a little frustrating since Comic-con security didn’t quite know what to make of us being there so early (yeah, nothing weird about that). We kept trying to tell them it was only a matter of time before our group of thirty would grow to thousands.

Eventually they accepted our presence and went from threatening to call the police to “trying to work with us” to making us the official line and providing shade and bathrooms. Ah, the power of well-behaved Twilight fans and perseverance…

I know this sounds nuts, but it really was a fun experience and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. We held back on purpose to be second in line as part of our on-going plan to avoid the press at all costs. The group in front of us was inundated by media interviews from every news outlet and blog known to mankind and I’m grateful to them for representing our fandom so well. They were well-spoken and provided an interesting human interest story rather than the freak story I would have been. Trust me when I say that.

TwiSis Crystal, LuvsMeSumEdward, Twi-daughter D, Mary Lou, 17foreverLisa, and Allye – doesn’t this look cozy? ZanyMouse and TwiredJen made special trips to the convention center to keep us company in line.

Twi-daughter Nicole, Allye, Lisa

I will admit, though, that outside the San Diego Convention Center was not the most peaceful and comfortable place to sleep. It was cold being right there next to the water (what can I say, I’m a wimp and anything below 65 degrees is cold) and I can’t even say how happy I was when the trolleys across the street stopped running around midnight. That is, right until I realized that once the trolleys stopped, then the freight trains started. Seriously. Freight trains!!

Home Sweet Home

Nicole and I are huge Dr. Who fans and this picture from the BBC website of Nicole shows the beautiful Cosplay dress ZanyMouse made for her. Nicole had her picture taken tons of times over the weekend by other Who fans and also was interviewed for a BBC special. Is ZanyMouse incredibly talented or what?

My goal for Comic-con was to get as close to Robert Pattinson as possible and Nicole’s goal was to meet Matt Smith (he plays The Doctor on Dr. Who). I still can’t believe we both met our goals with flying colors (you can read about when I met Rob HERE – sorry to keep bringing it up, but I still can’t believe it!). Thank you again to my anonymous friend-who-shall-not-be-named that gave us the hot tip on where to find Matt!

Matt and Nicole

Sue and Matt

It was so cool to meet up with two of my Twilighty friends who also happen to be fellow Whovians, Dangrdafne and MissTejota.

I’m sure you’ve figured out by now that Nicole and I are total geeks, so we were truly in our element at Comic-con. While I was there first and foremost for Twilight, it was pretty exciting to meet actors from Star Trek and Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was so sweet and gave GREAT hugs. Sigh.

Sue, Nicholas, Nicole

I have plenty more pictures to share in my next post, but here’s a lovely one of Rob to hold you over in the meantime. I may have used this one already, but does it really matter?
