11 Things I Learned on the Twitarded Trip to FOOOORRRKKS

Last Fall, I went with the gals from the fabulous Twitarded blog and over a hundred of their crazy, Twilight obsessed followers on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Twilight Mecca of Forks, Washington.

My family thought I was absolutely nuts because I had never met a single one of these people in person and mostly only knew everyone by their very creative online screen names, and yet there I was traipsing off to another state to hang out with them. I even made arrangements to room with three of these ladies based on a very lively Twitter conversation. How lucky was I to end up rooming with the awesome 17foreverlisa, Mrs. P, Cullenarycurser and our bonus next door neighbor (the one person I actually knew in “real life”) TwiredJen?! My sister’s worry that they would all turn out to be cartoon-headed 60 year old men who live in their Moms' basements turned out to be completely unfounded. In fact, I’m nearly certain there wasn’t a single serial killer in the bunch.

And now, here are 11 things that I learned on that trip, just in case you're considering making the pilgrammage yourself. Sure, it’s true that most people make top ten lists, but I decided to go with eleven in hope that this will convince you that I’m kind of over-achievery instead of just wishy-washy.

1. Twitards are the friendliest and most accepting people in the world. It was like we had all been called home to the mother ship to reunite with old friends. We were an instant community of women who completely “got” each other.

2. The Welcome to Forks sign is very cool in person.Cullenarycurser, Mrs. P, JennyJerkface, SnarkierThanYou, TwiloveSue, TwiredJen, 17foreverlisa

3. I have no self control at all when tempted with a store full of Twilight merchandise. None. Whatsoever.
4. The town of Forks deserves an E for Effort for embracing the world of Twilight. Even though Bella Swan doesn’t live in the Swan House, Dr. Cullen doesn’t work at the hospital (he does have a parking place, though) and none of Twilight movies were actually filmed in Forks, it still felt right.

5. Vampires really aren’t allowed on the Quileute side of the treaty line.
6. There are Hos in the Hoh Forest.17foreverlisa, Cullenarycurser, Mama_Cougar, tatoomickey, TwiloveSue, TwiredJen, Mrs.P

7. TwiredJen does a great New Moon Bella impression.
8. Chief Charlie Swan does not patrol Highway #101 between Forks and Port Angeles, but the Washington state troopers do and they will give you a ticket if you speed. Believe me, I learned this the hard way (and am eternally grateful to my passengers for being sweet & demure and not getting us arrested). The Gang (picture borrowed from Twitarded)

9. You should never turn your back on the ocean at La Push beach. CullenaryCurser was taken out by a rogue wave that came out of nowhere. I wasn’t sure if I should try to go help her or take a picture. Luckily she has a great sense of humor. 10. The mushroom ravioli at Bella Italia tastes better than it looks
11. Watching Twilight for the 17 millionth time with fellow Twitards was hysterical, like having your own Rifftraxx soundtrack. This was the funniest group ever and only we are allowed to make fun of Twilight.
If you’re still trying to decide whether or not to go on the FOOOORRRKKS trip this year, my advice is to DO IT! It’s something you just have to experience at least once and I’m so glad I did. It was one of my best decisions ever. To (mis)quote a recent circus movie, I wasn’t running away, I was going home.

We Saw 100 Monkeys at the Roxy and Partied Like It Was 10/10/10

While 17foreverlisa, MamaCougar and the gang were hanging out with the Monkeys in Chicago tonight, I interrupted my Spring Cleaning (yes, I know it's Summer; I'm a procrastinator) to dig up these pictures from the 100 Monkeys show in LA last October. I attended with four of my favorite people - Twifixx, ZAnyMouse and the two Twi-daughters - and the band did not disappoint. As they say, a picture paints a thousand words.

I always love the unique Monkey stage decor

Does this pose remind you of anyone?

I don't know how it happened, but somehow pretty much all of my shots ended up being of only Jackson. Thank you to ZAnyMouse for saving the day with these great pix of the rest of the band (except poor Ben J. I guess he was feeling kinda shy).

You've just got to wonder what was going through his mind.

I think Rob was wearing a San Diego Padres hat this morning because he's just as excited about Comic-con as I am. Do you suppose he's free to come by my house for dinner? Don't worry, I'll order pizza so that I don't poison him.

TwiloveSue’s “25 Things” (dedicted to the Babes at Twitarded)

If you haven’t been over to Twitarded yet to read Snarkier Than You’s “25 Things” and everyone else’s fabulous lists and blog links, be sure to go check it out. I just love getting to know everyone better! My list isn’t nearly as witty or interesting, but I think the idea is brilliant and want to play too. So here goes…

1. I’m seriously addicted to Diet Coke.
2. There are so many magnets on my refrigerator that it’s a wonder the door hasn’t fallen off.
3. Even though I spend an obscene amount of time and money on my hair, it never seems to make much of a difference.
4. I’ve been a major Donny Osmond fan since I was 8 years old and he’s jokingly referred to me as his “favorite stalker.”
5. I read several books a week
6. I’m a cat person and will probably someday have 8 of them and be the crazy lady down the street that everyone talks about.
7. I have 9 ear piercings.
8. I saw Twilight in the theater more times than I would admit even to you guys.
9. I think spreadsheets are awesome.
10. My three kids and my sister are the funniest people I know.
11. Despite all the peer pressure, I haven’t joined Facebook because I just can’t handle another obsession.
12. I’m ridiculously excited about Comic-con because it’s all of my favorite things in one place.
13. I like to drive really fast.
14. I camped out for 5 days for the Eclipse premiere and am planning to do it again for Breaking Dawn.
15. I read MoTU on my cell phone while at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and I think that pretty much makes me the worse chaperone ever.
16. I met my husband while we were both in the SDSU marching band and we’ve been married for 25 years.
17. I’m socially awkward and avoid parties like the plague.
18. I collect pretty much everything and the show Hoarders would have a field day at my house.
19. I used to take roller skating lessons and am still pretty good at it.
20. I started out as a music major in college, but eventually graduated with a business administration degree.
21. I’m thinking about getting a tattoo on my wrist.
22. I love to laugh.
23. I can recite the Greek alphabet really fast
24. I’m a terrible cook and am OK with that.
25. I love my Twi-friends to death and can’t even begin to say how much you guys brighten my day.

Please tell me in the comments that I'm not as weird as I think I am and be sure to let me know where I can find your list. Mwahhhhh!!!!

P.S. You know I wouldn’t leave you without a picture of Rob since every post simply must have one. Enjoy!
